Presented book brings forward research papers dedicated to the hillfort at Czermno, on Poland's eastern border, identified at present as the remains of the early medieval city of Cherven', a major site on the Polish-Ruthenian borderland in the 10th-13th centuries. The following book discusses the issues of chronology, production techniques and stylistic features of clay vessels, fragments of which are the most numerous among finds acquired during archaeological fieldwork held in Czermno in the years 1940, 1952, 1976-1979. The monograph is a continuation of the publication from 2016, dedicated to the other categories of finds from the past research in Czermno. The book provides a detailed analysis of technological, formal and stylistic features of vessels manufactured and utilized in the early medieval settlement complex. The Author discusses chronology of technological and stylistic shifts in the pottery production, he also attempts to indicate stylistic influences of pottery-making traditions from both the early Piast state and Kievan Rus'. The results of physicochemical analyses of pottery fabrics as well as radiocarbon datings of organic residues preserved on vessels walls form indispensable complements to the conclusions. Individual analyses are the result of an international cooperation of researchers from Poland, Germany, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine pursued within two wide-scale projects: The Golden Apple of Polish archaeology. Stronghold complexes at Czermno and Gródek (Cherven' Towns) - chronology and function in the light of past and current research (Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Warsaw/Poland, National Programme for the Development of the Humanities, project No. 12H 12 0064 81), and The Elbe Marches, Poland and Bohemia from the 10th to the 12th century (Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Bonn/Germany, project No. FKZ 01UG1410).

This book presents the majority of the contributions to the Tenth German-Vietnamese Seminar on Physics and Engineering (GVS10) that took place in the Gustav- Stresemann-Institut (GSI) in Bonn from June 6 to June 9, 2007. In the focus of these studies are the preparation and basic properties of new material systems, related investigation methods, and practical applications. Accordingly the sections in this book are entitled electrons: transport and confinement, low-dimensional systems, magnetism, oxidic materials, organic films, new materials, and methods. The series of German-Vietnamese seminars was initiated and sponsored by the Gottlieb Daimler- and Karl Benz -Foundation since 1998 and took place alt- nately in both countries. These bilateral meetings brought together top-notch senior and junior Vietnamese scientists with German Scientists and stimulated many contacts and co-operations. Under the general title "Physics and Engine- ing" the programs covered, in the form of keynote-lectures, oral presentations and posters, experimental and theoretical cutting-edge material-physics oriented topics. The majority of the contributions was dealing with modern topics of material science, particularly nanoscience, which is a research field of high importance also in Vietnam. Modern material science allows a quick transfer of research results to technical applications, which is very useful for fast developing countries like Vietnam. On the other hand, the seminars took profit from the strong cro- fertilization of the different disciplines of physics. This book is dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the seminars and nicely shows the scientific progress in Vietnam and the competitive level reached.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg ; Rheinbach, language: English, abstract: In Business Development, Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) have become an increasingly attractive growth opportunity among companies over a long period of time. Nowadays, there is hardly a day where current developments of ongoing M&A transactions or speculations about presumed M&A deals cannot be followed in the daily press. Other external growth opportunities, such as strategic alliances, joint ventures, and franchising (inorganic growth) are still behind M&A as a strategic alternative. Organic growth, which can be achieved by increasing sales personnel, developing new products or expanding in new geographical areas, presents another alternative. Nonetheless, M&A are often preferred because they provide a faster way to enter new markets and to make operations more efficient. Moreover, the constantly increasing global competition, strengthened through lowered market entry barriers and trade enhancing conventions between several countries, contribute to an increased consolidation pressure among businesses. However, it turned out that M&A are fairly sensitive projects that are vulnerable to fail. It is proved that a huge number of M&A did not deliver on their promises. The majority of failed M&A are a result of mismanagement during the Post Merger Inte-gration (PMI) when processes have to be adjusted, personnel need to be teamed up and corporate cultures have to be reconciled. During the PMI, synergies, as the dominant motive for M&A, which are identified before the transaction, have to be realized. However, synergies can frequently not be realized due to a poor quality of information, a high level of complexity or bad implementation strategies. In spite of these difficulties, many companies have not established a well-functioning synergy management and synergy tracking in their organizational structures yet. This thesis deals predominantly with aspects of synergy management whereby the main focus is on synergy tracking as a support function of the synergy management. An emphasis is on the analysis of realization efforts that need to be done by the management during the PMI. To provide a solution and ease the aforementioned issues of synergy realization, a synergy tracking tool, which serves as an effective support instrument during the PMI is developed.

Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Dolmetschen / Übersetzen, Note: 1,8, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (Institut fu¿r Orient- und Asienwissenschaften), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: 'The Babel fish is small, yellow and leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy received not from its own carrier but from those around it. It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with. The practical upshot of this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any language. [...] Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.'1 - Douglas Adams' 'Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy' Languages have always changed and evolved over the course of time. This somewhat organic process of change can neither be stopped, nor controlled. It is also a process that is quite difficult to monitor because it happens very subtle and on many different levels. One of the levels where it is possible to monitor and study language change is the phenomenon of lexical borrowing. Lexical borrowing is an inevitable result of language contact, because people will always utilize whatever communication tools they have to achieve mutual understanding and exchange. From this exchange new ideas and concepts may result that can enrich and sometimes change languages. The present thesis aims at giving a comparatively thorough analysis of lexical borrowing between two of the most widely spoken languages with worldwide distribution: International English and Standard (or Mandarin) Chinese. It therefore analyses different aspects of lexical borrowing between English and Chinese, including a historical survey of foreign language influences on Chinese, different channels of borrowing, loanword classification, adaptation methods for lexical borrowing and the cultural and linguistic impacts of the English language.
